Tis the season of garden tours and trips.

Last week the S.F. Bromeliad Club and the S.F Cactus and Succulent Club had separate field trips.
The Brom club went to the S.F. Conservatory and the Succulent club hired a bus and took us down to visit the cactus garden in Stanford, the Rodin sculpture garden , wine tasing in Gilroy and then plant shopping at Succulent Gardens Nursery in Castroville.

Here a a few photos from each tour :

I was interested in this deadly plant because I’ve seen it covertly growing in a nursery . It wasn’t for sale. It was being grown by one of the nursery workers for his own usse.

You potted up a FEW plants? A FEW plants? That looks like more than a few plants. Thanks for taking us along on the tour, especially for showing us the magnificent Andy Goldsworthy piece. He's one of my favorite artists of all time... he really deserves that spot across from Rodin.

HEY! That serpentine sculpture by Andy Goldworthly is a stacked wall isn't it. I mean it doesn't have any mortar holding it together. Beautiful work. Sounds like you had a wonderful excursion. And who's Idea was it to have a wine tasting before you went to the Succulant store? HA! that must have lubed the wallet right out of your jeans... Nice to see Poppy 'Drag Queen' is in your garden. Not it's actual name, but it should be. A friend of mine sent me seed last year. I am hoping for a successful garden show! That black and white bromeliad is a killer and I must have it. maybe even a few of them. Devil's Claw, interesting, what does the vine look like...

Patrick,
If that bromeliad comes up for sale or is on the raffle table I'll try and get a plant for you.
The devils claw plant sort of looks like a penstemon flower, at least that is how it was described to me by the nursery foreman at Landscapes Unlimited, which is where I saw the dried 'devils paw' seed pod.
PS. - I think Dan Arco's ID.'ed that particular bromeliad on his facebook page.
