Getting into the Season of Celebration

Buddha overlooks the falling leaves as they are plucked off of the succulents and are piled around the bases of my more tender subtropicals such as the bananas and heliconias.
I find that this aids in adding a little bit of insulation to the tender subtropical plants especially when a deep long frost is predicted.

Tomorrow I plan to wrap the two spiral topiary juniper trees with twinkle lights.

Michelle, your garden looks wonderful. Nice detailing! Your entrance is magnificent. I love the wreath of succulants on the gate. Very creative! the color combination really works. I would like to make a suggestion to enhance your gate a bit more and showcase your beautiful wreath. If you don't mind, picture this: two simple bows (two loops with two ribbons hanging down about a foot)on either side of the gate, attached to the third space from either side of the wreath. Both Bows to be connected by one twisted ribbon of the same quality that hangs evenly from the wreath all the way around the bottom of it, forming an upside down arch. Two connecting ribbons, one lower than the other, could be even better, the design to mimic the plaster designs frequenty found embellishing the walls and collumns of homes made during the twenties. The ribbon should be of the same color (or darker) as the darkest colors in the wreath and perhaps be wired ribbon so you can maniputate the shapes of the bows and the way it hangs. Just a suggestion. It looks as though you are ready for the showing, Best Wishes for good weather... Patrick

Is THAT the succulent wreath from Home cheapo??? If so. I am running not walking!

Patrick,
My small local post office was closed yesterday so your package will be going out monday am.
And thanks for the bow tip.
I'll check to see what I have in my millinary supplies, I might have just the right thing.

Linda,
Yup, that the $ 19.99 wreath that I got at Home Cheapo.
It is chalk full of succulents that are going to go into the garden after the holiday season is over.

The photo 'scouting' shoot is Tuesday.
I'm anxious to have them come because it has been a job to go out every morning and rake piles of leaves.
The surrounding Oaks and Ash trees are dropping truck loads of leaves every hour.
I fill my Toyota truck every three days.
I'm composting a lot too, but there is way more falling foliage than my small garden can handle.
There would probably be about 3 to 5 feet depth of leaves over the entire property if I didn't rake them up every year.
The irony is that only two out of the 7 large trees are on my property, the rest belong to my neighbors.

Hey, I can't believe that H. Depot is selling that wreath for $20.00. Wow! Too cold here for one. good shopping! Patrick

Yeah, I couldn't believe my eye balls either when I saw the price tag for the succulent wreath : $ 19.99
They had the same wreaths last year for about the same price and I kicked myself for not picking one up before they sold out of them.
Then I saw another succulent wreath at Flora Grubbs nursery for $ 150.00 and thought..... get you butt back down to Home Depot and FAST.

Here's the wreaths from Floras nursery.
They have a lot more variety of succulents but for $ 130.oo more you would think so.

Hey, Oh yea, that's a nice wreath too, but actually I would rather have the one you have, especially for the price! Amazing... By the way, thinking of unusual ways to use plants, when are you going to show us the Tillandsia hat?!? Is it still hanging around? Patrick

Oh I loved the Tillandsia hat !
After that 'hat statement day', I took the Tillandsias off and put them in the greenhouse.
Then just a few hours ago I raided the greenhouse and wired the Tillandsias onto a old simple rusted metal chandelier that I have hanging over the outdoor dining table.
It will will a chandelier statement day. ... well sort of.
It could use a lot more Tillandsias but I'm not willing to pry the rest of my collection off of their hosts.

So I guess it will just have to be a light duty chandelier statement day.

Beautiful! I'll have to see if the wreath is a corporate H.D. thing...I doubt it. Something like that probably wouldn't go over real being up here in the land of the evergreen wreath and cedar swags....
