Road Rage - British Style

On Valentines day 2010 the North Bay British Car Club : http://www.nobbc.com/ celebrated in style by taking to the winding country side roads for an awe inspiring trip through the California redwoods.

It was a curvaceous and at times a bumpy ride that ended with lots of bubbles, champagne bubbles that is.

For when the club orchestrates a road trip you can be sure that it is done in and with style.

We met early in the morning for a croissant breakfast and a chance to view each others works of mechanical art

Then we hit the road

Our first stop was at Armstrong Redwoods Park

Where I just happened to bump into the former recent past president of the APLD, Cynthia Sumner

( Association of Professional Landscape Designers ) - so the day wasn’t completely void of

landscape architecture !

Then onto Korbel Champagne Cellars for a tour , tasting and lunch.

There were some interesting gardens on site but the gates to the old historic estate rose garden was locked

After lunch we took the coast road home. These are photos of the Sonoma coast line

Half way down the coast we were being honked at from a car behind us.

We didn’t know what was the matter so we stopped.

The man in the car followed us until we stopped.

He just wanted to let us know how much he loved my partners car and that he was thinking of buying one to restore himself.

I thought it was really strange, but my partner who has had his 57 MG for 30 years is used to men jumping out of their cars just to tell him that they too once owned a car like this and thinks of it often and fondly.

I guess its a guy thing.

Sounds like perfectly lovely day. Your photos seem to have really captured the feeling of the day, I especially enjoyed the ones of the coast.

Val Day must be a natural for car clubs. On the coast near Palos Verdes/SoCal yesterday there was a pack of '30s and '40s glam cars. And it is true about men pulling over to swap stories. There's a '70 VW bus in our family, and it's everything from subtle nods and waves to pulling over for full-on conversations. Those Brits made gorgeous cars. What a ride!

Oh, this reminds me, I have GOT to get down to "Cruisin' Grand" here in Escondido, CA on Friday evenings. Car collectors from all over San Diego county show up and park along the street or cruise it. Great photo ops. I want to shoot reflections in chrome. Luscious.

What a lovely way to spend the day. Are the first photos (red) of your partners MG? SEXY!

Debbie,
It was a wonderful fun filled day, I wish everyone could have at least one day like this in their lives.

Denise, Love the term 'glam cars ', fun !

Debra, I too love shooting the reflections in chrome.
Didn't get a chance on this trip though.

Loree,
My partner has the white MG. I love the red one but he is a purist and when he bought the car 30 years ago it was white and white it will stay for the rest of its life.
I use to have a green one, albeit a newer model, a 1986 MG b
It was in show room condition looks wise but it was constantly breaking down in the most embarrassing places... like on the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge and in the middle of a ghetto .
Yikes.
I was lucky that I always made it through OK.

Christine, it was a head turning day down the coast.
